Night-time dog walking gear can make all the difference when the evenings grow darker and visibility drops. As the nights draw in, Bear and I upgrade our evening walk kit every year — and after testing countless products over the last decade (Bear has expensive taste, apparently), I’ve narrowed it down to the three absolute essentials for staying safe, seen and stylish. 🌙🐾
If you’re walking your dog in the dark this season, the right visibility gear helps cars, cyclists and other walkers spot you early, reducing risks and making every stroll much calmer and more enjoyable.
1. Ruffwear Lumenglow High-Vis Jacket
This is Bear’s high-fashion, high-function evening outfit. The reflective material is incredibly bright, helping cars spot him on dark country lanes or unlit paths. It’s also weather-resistant, which keeps him warm and dry in that classic British drizzle.
The harness portal on top means no faffing about trying to clip leads underneath a coat, and the built-in light loop is perfect if you want to add an LED for even more visibility.
Available in several sizes and colours — and yes, Bear looks fabulous in them all.

2. Orbiloc LED Safety Light
This tiny light is ridiculously powerful. Clip it onto Bear’s harness or jacket and he instantly becomes a glowing, dog-shaped beacon — ideal for dark fields, pavements, and woodland walks.
It’s waterproof (perfect for spontaneous puddle bomb-dives), impact-resistant, and has both flashing and solid modes. You can see it from up to three miles away. That’s more than enough to spot Bear when he decides to audition for a squirrel-chasing Olympics team.
3. LED Rechargeable Collar
The pièce de résistance. This USB-rechargeable LED collar makes Bear look like he’s starring in a canine remake of Tron, and honestly, I’m here for it.
Waterproof? Yes.
Quick-release buckle? Absolutely.
Multiple colours? Of course — Bear likes options.
It also includes a D-Ring for safe lead attachment, which is sturdier and more secure than an O-ring. Small detail, big difference.

Extra Tip for Night-Time Dog Walks 🐾
Some dogs find walking in the dark a little spooky — sounds carry differently, shadows move, and wildlife becomes more active. If your dog is anxious or reactive at night, choose well-lit routes, keep your distance generous, and let them move away or sniff whenever they need to.
