• Avoid training gadgets that promise instant obedience. Dogs are not phones. We cannot just install the latest update and hope the barking patch works.
• Be cautious with retractable leads. They can be difficult to manage safely around roads, other dogs, children, cyclists and wildlife.
• Skip punishment-based equipment. If a product relies on pain, fear, pressure or intimidation, it is not something I would recommend.
• Do not buy toys just because they are cheap. Think about size, durability, supervision and whether your dog is likely to chew, shred or swallow parts.

The best dog product is rarely the flashiest one. It is usually the thing that makes daily life safer, calmer or easier for both you and your dog.
