Dog Supplements Explained: What Really Works

Dog Supplements Explained: What Really Works

Supplements aren’t magic — but the right ones can make a real difference when they’re paired with a complete diet, good routines, enrichment feeding, and veterinary care when needed. The products below are the ones I’ve personally used across many dogs over the years and can confidently vouch for. They’re high quality, widely trusted, and worth your money. Avoid cheaper alternatives — these are the standouts in their field.

Your dog’s everyday food has the biggest impact on stool quality, skin, coat and overall behaviour. If you haven’t already, have a read of my dog food guide before adding supplements on top.

Before you add anything…

  • Foundation first: complete, digestible food; steady routines; enrichment feeding; appropriate exercise; sleep.
  • Use supplements to target a goal: joints, calm, gut, dental, skin/coat, hydration.
  • Vet first for red flags: vomiting, blood, collapse, severe pain, rapid weight change.

Joints & Mobility

🦴 YuMOVE Joint Care

What it is: A comprehensive joint formula (Green-Lipped Mussel, glucosamine, hyaluronic acid, Vit E).

Why I rate it: Consistent real-world results for mobility and comfort; used by many vets and trainers.

How I use it: Daily for seniors or as early support in big, active breeds. Bear (my Labrador) has been on YuMOVE since age 8.

🧴 Pro-Kolin (soother & binder)

What it is: A palatable paste with probiotics and kaolin/pectin to soothe short-term upsets.

Why I rate it: Handy “first-aid for tummies” to keep in the cupboard for mild diarrhoea days.
