'Puppy School' in Harlow

Bringing a new puppy home can feel overwhelming — there’s so much conflicting advice online and it’s hard to know what really matters. That’s why all new HPDT clients begin with a Perfect Puppy Phone Consultation. It’s an information-packed hour covering the issues new owners search for most, like toilet training and puppy mouthing and biting. Many owners say their puppy’s behaviour improves within a day, and you’ll arrive at Puppy School in Harlow feeling prepared and already making progress at home.

Want a puppy who can stay calm, relaxed and sociable around other dogs and people — and still listen when the world is exciting?

Our fun puppy training classes in Harlow build your puppy’s confidence, social skills and self-control using modern, reward-based training. Sessions are taught by a fully insured, accredited trainer with over 16 years’ experience, so you can feel confident your puppy is learning safely and effectively.

Groups are kept small and carefully managed, helping your puppy stay focused and relaxed around other dogs — something you simply can’t replicate in a busy park or through unstructured puppy play.

The Perfect Puppy Package brings your 1-hour Phone Consultation together with the 5-week Puppy School course. The consultation gives you a clear daily plan at home, and the classes help you put it into action each week.

HPDT Puppy School in Harlow follows a structured, progressive path — each week builds on the last so your puppy develops calm, real-life skills that genuinely stick.

Everything is taught in a relaxed, supportive environment so both you and your puppy enjoy learning together.

What We Cover in Puppy School

Our Harlow puppy classes focus on calmness, confidence and real-life skills. Here’s what we’ll work on:

  • 🐾 Manners: Teaching your puppy to sit, lie down, stay and greet people politely without jumping
  • 🧘‍♂️ Calmness: Learning to relax around other dogs, people and everyday noise in a controlled environment
  • 💪 Confidence: Building resilience so your puppy feels comfortable exploring new places and situations
  • 🚶‍♀️ Loose-lead walking: Introducing the foundations for walking by your side rather than pulling ahead
  • 📣 Recall skills: Fun games that teach your puppy to return quickly when called — an essential safety behaviour
  • 🔄 Swap & Drop: Helping your puppy trade toys and “found treasures” willingly without chasing
  • 🎯 Focus with distractions: Strengthening attention so your puppy can stay engaged even when the world is exciting
  • 🦴 Chewing habits: Guiding natural chewing behaviour onto the right long-lasting, safe chew options
  • 👂 Name recognition: Teaching your puppy to immediately look to you when their name is called
  • 🎲 Training games: Short, playful exercises that boost engagement and build a stronger connection

Your training journey doesn’t end at Puppy School. Many owners continue on to High School, join our free social walks and use our online courses — so support and guidance are always there as your puppy grows. Some families have been coming to walks for years, which shows how we stay with you long after your initial course ends.

Puppy Consultation FAQs

What age can my puppy be for a consultation?
Any age is absolutely fine — some owners book before their puppy even comes home so they can start prepared. However, I generally recommend having the consultation within the first two weeks of bringing your puppy home, when routines and habits are forming.
Are phone consultations really effective?
Yes — extremely. For most puppies, phone consultations work just as well as home visits, and often better, because we can cover more without waiting for behaviours to appear. You’ll have my full attention, clear notes to refer back to and the chance to ask all the “silly” questions you might not want to ask in a busy class.
How does the Perfect Puppy Package work?
The Perfect Puppy Package brings together a 1-hour Phone Consultation and the 5-week Puppy School course, so you get support with life at home as well as in class.
  1. Step 1 – Perfect Puppy Phone Consultation
A friendly, information-packed call where we focus on the things new puppy owners struggle with most — toilet training, puppy mouthing and biting, sleep, routines and how to meet your puppy’s needs day-to-day. Many owners say their puppy’s behaviour improves within a day and that they finally feel they “know what to do”.
  2. Step 2 – 5-Week Puppy School Course
Small, structured puppy classes in Loughton focusing on:
    • calm behaviour around people and other dogs
    • building confidence in new places
    • recall games and everyday manners
All delivered in a way that doesn’t overwhelm your puppy.
  3. Step 3 – Support Between Sessions
Weekly class reviews, access to the HPDT Members area and friendly guidance so you keep making progress every day — not just once a week.
After your first call, you’ll usually leave with:
  • a clear daily routine for toileting, sleep and downtime
  • simple, practical steps to reduce mouthing and biting
  • a better understanding of what’s normal puppy behaviour
  • confidence that you’re not doing everything wrong
  • a realistic plan that fits your puppy and household
  • that feeling of “okay, I know what to do next”
There’s so much conflicting puppy advice online — it can feel like every TikTok trainer is shouting something different. The consultation cuts through the noise and gives you one clear, realistic plan that works for your puppy and your family.
How do I book a consultation?
Booking is simple. Just fill in the enquiry form on the Contact page and include your puppy’s:
  • age
  • breed
  • sex
  • and what you’d like to focus on
You’ll receive a reply as soon as possible with availability and next steps. If you’d like to learn more about how I work, you’re very welcome to explore the About page or read through our 50+ five-star Google reviews.
