About Heath – Puppy Specialist & Force-Free Dog Trainer

Hi, I’m Heath – founder of Heath’s Personal Dog Training, lifelong animal lover, and specialist in puppy training and life skills.

I’ve been around animals my whole life. As a child, nothing made me happier than walking dogs, riding horses in the forest (not at the same time), and spending more time with people’s pets than with the people themselves. It was never just about training – it was about connection, trust, and understanding.

It’s tough being a dog in a human world. Empathy is at the heart of everything I teach.

How I became a dog trainer

Before becoming a full-time dog trainer, I started my career as a teacher, supporting young adults and helping them learn with confidence. I loved breaking things down, explaining clearly, and making learning feel safe and achievable.

In 2009, I joined Guide Dogs and everything clicked. My teaching skills transferred naturally to dogs and their handlers, and I became deeply interested in how behaviour, emotions and the environment all work together.

I was originally taught more traditional methods, but punishment never sat right with me. It didn’t match my values, and I knew there had to be a kinder, more effective way. So I studied, researched and learned from modern, force-free trainers who use science and empathy to create change.

Back then, I was laughed at for using treats or suggesting you didn’t need to shout “no” at a dog. I carried on anyway. Now, with nearly ten years of experience with my own dog Bear, I’m proud to say I’ve never had to use the word “no” with him. When you focus on what you want a dog to do, instead of what you don’t, everything changes.

Heath’s Personal Dog Training

My coaching is practical, kind and structured. Everything I teach is designed to help dogs feel safe, understood and supported, while helping owners feel clear and confident.

Canine science moves forward all the time – and so do I. I pride myself on continual professional development to make sure the support I offer is always up to date, effective and welfare-focused.

I founded Heath’s Personal Dog Training in 2011 to help families raise calm, confident, well-mannered dogs using modern, ethical methods.

I specialise in puppy training and life skills, focusing on the behaviours that matter most in day-to-day life.
